A Softhand and Hardhand in Blackjack

In the casino game of blackjack, a player possesses a hard hand if it does not have an ace. So if a player is currently holding a jack and a seven, it is called a hard seventeen. It means that the total is fixed in a specific number which is influenced by the upcard of the dealer and basic blackjack technique.

Hard hands do not give the player any flexibility and the player must be careful because there is a big chance that you will bust if you are challenge by another card. On the other hand, a softhand in blackjack is the exact opposite of a hardhand.

So a soft seventeen are a card pair that is an ace and a six. A Soft hand is also not locked at seventeen and it can be played as a single seven or seventeen. The good thing about a soft hand is that getting another card will not cause the player to bust because of the ace. The ace can be use an ace or eleven.

It is a good position to be in so players can use some good technique and wagering pattern together with it. This is the first point to consider when a player is thinking to play their soft hand is the upcard of the dealer.

If the dealer has a five or six, then the dealer has a good chance to bust, which will shift the momentum to the player. With the assurance that the player will not bust when they are hit by a card, the player can double down.

The player may support a good card to give them a 19, 20 or 21. But if this not happened, it is still not a big thing as the dealer is still has a high percentage to bust. If the player has an ace and eight for the soft 19 or an ace and a nine for the soft 20, the player should choose to stand instead of doubling down.

But for other softhand, the player should choose to double down if the dealer has a five or six. This may be a hasty move for a beginner in blackjack but this has proven to be a good play in the long run. Players can only double down on their first pair of cards.

So if players just got another ace and their current hand is still soft, they cannot double down. But it is advisable for players to continue their weak hands until it transformed into a hard hand because they are not going to bust and could hit the right card to give them a good position in the game.
